This is a great Little Red Hen project that I first saw my friend, Mrs. McCain do in her class. It is excellent tracing and cutting practice as well as the word family work.
I love to see how the children embellish the hens with details.
I prepare brown paper with paint and cut some of it up into strips for the nest.
I feel it is important to let the children put it all together in their own way. I do not like every one looking the same. It is so much more fun to let them do it their way!
These are the tracers I provide for the children.
I LOVE these word family art projects! Do you think most of them up or do you have a resource you use? I would love to do more that the traditional word slide. Thanks!
I’m really surprised that you would promote “tracers” for children. You could promote the same wonderful concept of the en family, but in a much more creative way. Maybe have the children write the words on the paper eggs, but then place in a nest made with natural loose parts and maybe have the children createthe mamma hen from clay to join her eggs in the nest.
Those are fabulous ideas! And I would agree some great thoughts! This was written back in 2011 and each year was an important part of my own journey as a teacher through many different school settings. It’s an alternative to worksheets as this was where I worked in a highly academic setting that required this work.
Thanks for sharing!
These activity will surely be applied in my class, This is fun. Thank you Sally!
