This is an adaptation of a common kindergarten art project.  Normally, we use heart doilies and create different creatures.  Recently,  I have found oodles of scrapbook paper on clearance at Tuesday Morning.  I adore the funky feeling of the printed papers!  So fun! I cut out a large assortment of hearts and created a tray of hearts for children to fashion heart animals and creatures.

The next step is offer an assortment of hearts for making valentines.  Tracing the finished creation and adding details is fun as well!  You could put out googly eyes and other collage materials to take this a step further.

I am still snow bound and have not been in school for a week now.  I am so sad this project lacks the beauty of the child's touch!!!  The children's work is always the most beautiful. . .

Assorted sizes of hearts cut out of scrapbook papers.  Make sure to make long thin hearts, short round hearts, and tiny hearts for the fullest range of creation.  I love using painted black trays for this kind of work as it pops the color.
