With the study of plants and flowers – it only made sense to open a farmer's market in the classroom.  The first thing we did was discuss and brainstorm what was found at a farmer's market.  We then decided what we would make.

The children made green beans, peas, tomatoes, and cherries.

STEP ONE:  We made bread ornament dough and gave it to the children to form their vegetables.

Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup salt

1 1/2 cups warm water

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. Stirring with a large spoon, mix flour and salt.  Gradually add water.  Knead with your hands until soft and pliable.
  3. Form vegetables and fruit.  Bake at 325 degrees F until hard, about 1 hour.

STEP TWO:  After they were baked and cooled, we painted them:
